San Diego: 10 Out of the Ordinary Things to Do

With more than 70 miles of beach, perfect weather year-round and a myriad of activities to choose from, San Diego is the perfect place to spend the ultimate vacation (check out my post on the best things to do for a first-time visit). With tons of hikes, amusement parks, beaches and so much more, you’ll surely never run out of things to do. However, if you’re looking to experience San Diego away from the tourists and do things you typically wouldn’t do you’ve come to the right place. Read on for 10 out of the ordinary things to do in San Diego!

Sailing

The perfect way to spend the day! Sail out of the bay towards Coronado Island, soak in the sun and take a dive into the ocean! There are many companies that offer sailing excursions and it’s a great way to spend a sunny afternoon!

Bon Fire

Pick up some firewood and your favorite s’mores ingredients and head to the beach. La Jolla Shores and Crown Point have really awesome fire pits. It’s a perfect way to end an evening with friends, enjoying the cool ocean breeze!

Outdoor Yoga

If you’re looking to stretch your limbs a bit, there are tons of meet up groups throughout all of the city that feature outdoor yoga.

Paddle Boarding

One of our favorite activities. You can rent paddle boards at just about every beach but since we prefer the bay for this activity, we usually head to Mission Beach and walk over to the bay, rented-paddle boards in tow, for some fun in the sun!

La Jolla Swings

It’s hard to find this hidden gem but once you do, it’s the perfect spot to watch the sunset, hang out and get some great photos! Type in these coordinates (32.864321, -117.247991) in your GPS, they’re not the exact location but really close!

San Diego Beer Tasting Tour

San Diego is famous for its breweries and with the vast number of craft breweries, it is an ideal destination for beer-lovers! You can find one of many at just about every part of town. Beer tasting tours are a neat way to get to know the city and its delicious libations! Brewery Tours of San Diego offers public and private tours. For a party bike pub crawl, check out Social Cycle!

Kayaking Tour

Everyday California is my favorite kayaking tour company. It’s a must for out of town visitors because you see a different side of San Diego and get a bit of exercise while you’re at it!

Torrey Pines Gliderport

This is my favorite spot to watch the sunset and to see the paragliders up close and in action. The high cliffs offer unobstructed views of the ocean! Visit flytorrey.com for more info!

Sunny Jim Sea Cave

This is such a cute little attraction. You can only access this cave through a man-made tunnel in a small gift shop called The Cave Store in La Jolla. For $5, it’s worth the visit!

Fault Line Park

Located just a few blocks away from the harbor, this downtown park is perfect for a stroll, a picnic or some fun in the sun for the little ones!
